The Star Thrower - Musical Evening Performance Dual Events

The Loren Eiseley Society has worked with John Cimino and Jon Klibonoff to bring free public performances in May 2025 of a Musical Evening with Loren Eiseley's "The Star Thrower" to both Scottsbluff and Omaha, Nebraska.

During both performances, there will be planned reflections from composer, performer and Eiseley scholar John Cimino discussing and performing highlights of his Eiseley-inspired musical dramatization, THE STAR THROWER together with pianist and conductor, Jon Klibonoff.

These events are sponsored by the Loren Eiseley Society, Hod Kosman, Western Nebraska Community College, The University of Nebraska Omaha, Associated Solo Artists, and The Renaissance Center.

On January 9, 2023, The Loren Eiseley Society had originally postponed The Star Thrower Opera to review and discuss a supplemental content framework designed to surround the opera and deliver Eiseley's message to a broader audience. These two supplemental performances are several steps forward in delivering Eiseley's message more effectively.

The Loren Corey Eiseley Historical Marker

The Loren Eiseley Society formally received approval in 2024 to install a historical marker dedicated to Loren Eiseley in his childhood neighborhood. On the initiative of the Loren Eiseley Society, History Nebraska produced the requested marker and it was installed along the creek in Lincoln, Nebraska's Irvingdale Park. This is where young Loren would play and collect specimens for his homemade aquariums. This project was done in cooperation with Lincoln Parks and Recreation and the Irvingdale Neighborhood Association. The dedication event happened on Friday, April 11, 2025. The location is several blocks from his childhood home. The marker's inscription reads as follows:

LOREN EISELEY

Anthropologist, poet, and nature writer Loren Eiseley (1907-1977) was raised in the nearby neighborhoods of Lincoln. As a boy he collected specimens of aquatic life from this and other local creeks and ponds to stock his homemade aquarium. His books such as The Immense Journey and The Night Country include personal narratives set in this area. His time exploring creeks such as this one inspired his most famous line: "If there is magic in this world, it is contained in water."

The cost of this historical marker was $2,700. Please consider making a donation to the Loren Eiseley Society to support this effort.
